These are comments included in the surveys. In some cases they have been slightly edited for clarity. The numbering is for convience of reading only, the numbers do not represent a particular child; that is, comment number 16 on this page does not necessarily represent the same child as number 16 on another page of comments.
  1. lots of ear infections & more colds & fevers
  2. 24 ear infections; 4 tonsillitis; 4 bronchitis; 2 pharyngitis; 2 severe asthma attacks; 2 sets of ear tubes 7 mo and 21 mo ; colonoscopy/duodoscopy scope to check for celiacs 21 mo; surgery rt/lt inguaral hernia repair 4 mo; tonsils and adenoids removed 14 mo; heart murmur; abnormal ptt tests (blood clotting tests); couldn't chew food until 18 months old and taught, swallowed all food whole
  3. often has respiratory illness, is asthmatic (older brother was too)

  5. always on anti-biotics for chest infections (2-6yrs) now has asthma
  6. markebly increased and much more severe

  10. resistence poor when younger.
  11. She had lots of colds etc in first five years of life, but she is quite hardy now.
  12. If there is a germ out there - she will catch it. Pneumonias were mostly due to low muscle tone and an inability to clear her lungs. She had a severe case of chicken pox at six months - even on her eyes! She was diagnosed with asthma due to breathing problems - the diagnosis was wrong.
  13. This fall has been best ever. Used to have constant upper respiratory problems, sinus infections, etc. has had 10 sinus related surgeries.

  15. Very sickly up to age 4 - constant ear infections - had to have "tubes" put in . Handled Chicken Pox fine. Had febrile seizures that did not stop on their own and was hospitalized 2 times in ICU for this.
  16. rarely gets sick. and when she does get sick, it's mild. (non-sotos younger brother is the opposite. catches everything and catches it bad).
  17. She used to have a constant cold but seems to have got better of late,but it always lays heavy on her chest.
  18. for the first two years had very frequent upper respiratory tract infections which invariably finished whith wheezy bronchitis requiring frequent hospital admissions. since then continues to have a constant "cold" from september through may but they don't tend to lead to anything more serious now. Has glue ear which has required grommets replaced at frequent intervals. - his older brother is practically never ill and shakes off a cold very quickly -for his twin see other survey
  19. the first two years had very frequnt upper respiratory tract infections which were nearly always complicated by wheezy bronchitis often requiring hospital treatment. Had dreadful antibiotic resistant otitis media which lasted for months and only cleared up after surgical drainage . He has needed frequently replaced grommets for glue ear. Now has almost contant cold from septemer through may

  22. Were very frequent and was prone to ear infections as a child. Outgrew around 8 years old!
  23. first ear infection at 9 weeks; airway problems, constant respiratory problems, sinus "green" nose, for first 5 years; had tonsils and adenoids removed at 3 1/2 (hemmorhaged 10 days later), P.E. tubes at 5; allergy shots from 5 to 11 years (completely healthy during those years as long as shots were maintained); from 11 to 15, she has had hayfever symptoms (like the rest of us). Also had LEFT side hydronephrosis at 18 months had megaureter and had the ureter sculpted and reimplanted. Drooled alot when small--even as older child, had to remind her to close her mouth when working hard on something Had a rash around her mouth for over two years that was described as part allergic/part pre-puberty--when she was 8, they began treating with tetracycaline and it disappeared within a month.

  45. Colds always turn into a sinus infection; always needs an antibiotic. Removed adenoids, still needs antibiotic but frequency lower.
  46. Never an ear infection; rarely colds. only get serious illnesses, e.g., spontaneous pneumothorax, extended seizures. Periodically gets fevers that spike at 105 degrees and last 3 days. Pediatrician has no explanation. By tracking them, we found them to coincide with growth spurts.
