8BBA.  Mildred Winchester was born in South Bend, Indiana, on Monday, August 8, 1904, and died probably in Howard City, Montcalm County, Michigan, in February, 1989. Nicholas Georgakakis was born in Nafplion, Greece, on Saturday, May 17, 1902, and died in Stanwood, Michigan, on July 5, 1973. His death year may be off by a year or two. He was buried in Reynolds Cemetery, Reynolds Township, Montcalm County, Michigan. She is the daughter of Clyde Henry and Mildred (Baker) Winchester. They had three children:

i. Buddy Constantine George [#8BBAA]: He was born in Lakeside Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, on August 6, 1922, and died in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, on January 10, 1988.
ii. Elaine George [#8BBAB]: She was born in Grand Rapids on April 27, 1924, and died in Big Rapids, Micosta County, Michigan, on October 9, 1992.
iii. James Paul Georgakakis was born at home at 528 Woodridge Avenue, Grand Rapids, Michigan., on May 16, 1929. He never married. He adopted the last name of George but never had it legally changed.

Her second marriage was to Ed Kroll. He was born on Saturday, July 27, 1900, and died in Howard City, Montcalm County, Michigan, in June, 1972. They were married for 20 years (until Ed died). His birth and death dates came from the Social Security Death Index; his number was 373-09-8819, issued in Michigan.

Her third marriage was to Harold Sanford. He was born on Tuesday, September 26, 1905, and died in Howard City, Montcalm County, Michigan, in August, 1975. They were married for 2 years and 4 months. Per John Winchester, he was "her only true love"; he died. His birth and death dates came from the Social Security Death Index; his number was 380-01-1165, issued in Michigan.

Her fourth marriage was to Bill Hagadone. They were living in Louisiana and Mildred wanted to return to Michigan; he didn't. She did; he didn't. That was the end of the marriage. He is probably the William Hagadone who was born November 15, 1906, and died in Saint Bernard, Louisiana, on February 4, 1990, with SSN=366-01-1429, issued in Michigan.

Per Josephine Winchester, Mildred's parents did not get along well. Mildred was 8 years old when they divorced and was sent to live with her grandparents Ozro an Hannah Winchester. She lived with them for about two years. When she was 11 years old, she went back to live with her mother and a stepfather. There was havoc at their home causing Mildred to leave home again at the young age of 16. They were in Grand Rapids at the time.

At age 17, Nick worked his way to the United States on a ship, and came to Grand Rapids to be with his brother. He left Greece shortly after his mother died because he did not get along with his father, a Greek Orthodox priest. Nick and Mattie married and raised three children; when the children were grown, they were divorced.

The birth and death information for Mildred is taken from the Social Security Death index for number 368-18-4920: Mildred Hagadone. It was issued in Michigan. Family letters show that Mildred did live in Howard City. The birth and death information for Nick is a guess taken from the Social Security Death index for number 367-34-6631: Nicholas George. Since the card was issued in Michigan, the last payment was to an address in Traverse City, and the family tended to live in that area, it's a likely choice.

Mildred's granddaughter, Sandy Pratt, has [2001] the following written by Mildred.

Mattie Baker, daughter of Wm. Baker and Eliza Paine of Morley, married in 1902 Clyde Winchester. Clyde Winchester was the son of Ozro Winchester and Hannah Gilbert of Grand Rapids, Mich. They later lived on a farm in Dorr, Mich. Mildred Winchester was born of this union in South Bend Ind. Aug. 18, 1904. They moved to G.R.to reside there until Oct. 8, 1920 [implied marriage date] when Mildred married Nicholas George, a native of Greece.

Of this union was born

  1. Buddy Constantine Aug. 6 1922 at Lakeside Hosp. Chicago, Ill.
  2. Elaine, born April 27, 1924 on Broadway Ave. in G.R., Mich.
  3. James Paul George May 16, 1929 on 528 Woodridge Ave. G.R. Mich.
