John Edwards was a clothier in Fairfield. He purchased realty from Joseph Rowland on November 12, 1691. He was admitted to the Stratfield Church before 1731. He was probably related to Thomas Edwards, (Capt.) of Stratford.
John was a Deputy from Fairfield to the Connecticut Legislature October 1702, May 1706, October 1711, October 1712, and May 1718; he was a naval officer at the Port of Fairfield, May 1714; and a justice 171421.
The will of John Edwards was dated December 3, 1735, with a codicil added on July 4, 1737; it was proved on September 23, 1744. It mentioned his wife, Mary, his daughter, Abigail Wheeler, children of late daughter, Mary Dennie, eldest son, William, and other sons Thomas, John, and Joseph. It also included land at Sackett's Farm (New York), Stratford, and Fairfield. He gave £30 to the Church of Christ of Stratfield for a silver vessell; he had slaves and a large estate. His son, William, appealed the will.
The will of Mary Edwards (John's second wife) was dated February 15, 1745/6,
and proved on April 4, 1749.
