46–47.  Ebenezer Norris was born in New Jersey in—say—1794, and died in Canada about 1840. Sarah McKinney was born in New York on Wednesday, January 28, 1795, and died in Kent County, Michigan, on June 12, 1881. Her father was born in Canada, her mother in New York. They were married before they moved to Canada. They were married before they moved to Canada. She is the daughter of Robert and Mariah (McGrough) McKinney. Four sons and three daughters were born to this union of which Elizabeth, Nancy, Ann, A. Judson, and Lorenzo were known and were alive in 1900. Elizabeth was the eldest.

i. Elizabeth Jane Norris [#23]: She was born about 130 miles east of Windsor, Canada, on April 1, 1825, and died in 1907.
ii. A. Judson Norris was born in 1826, and died in 1911. He married Julia A. _____, 1839–1919. Among their children was a son, Kemp W. Norris, 1875–1902. They are all buried in Winegar Cemetery, Byron Township, Kent County, Michigan.
iii. Marriah Norris:

Mariah (Norris) Higgins

Sarah (Higgins) Fairbanks

A.A. Fairbanks
She was born in Aylmer, Canada; her married name was Marriah Higgins. Her existence is known from her photograph on the back of which is written by Rose Judson Gilbert: "Aunt Marriah Norris Higgins / was born in Almer Canada / Grandmother McKinney sister / Elizabeth Jane Norris McKenney". They had at least one child, known from her photograph: Sarah Higgins. She married A. A. Fairbanks.
iv. Nancy Maria Norris: She married James White and lived in Oakland, California.
v. Ann Eliza Norris: She married David Irwin and lived in Byron Township.
vi. Lorenzo Norris: He was a farmer who lived in Clay County.
vii. Robert Norris was born in Canada on September 6, 1833, and died in Byron Township, Kent County, Michigan, on February 22, 1897. He died of epilepsy in the Michigan Asylum in Kalamazoo; he is buried in Winegar Cemetery in Byron Township. The 1880 census for Kent County, Michigan (see copy in record for Elizabeth Jane Norris and Samuel A. McKenney) shows Robert Norris, age 48, living with the family; he is listed as a brother.

Ebenezer Norris Sarah (McKinney) Norris
Ebenezer served in the War of 1812 and died when Elizabeth was "quite young".
The author has two copies of Ebenezer's picture, both from the collection of his grandmother, Rose Judson Gilbert. On the back of one is written: "Great great grandfather Norris / Great grandmother Norris / Grandmother McKenney / Mother Judson / myself, Rose Judson Gilbert / Truman Gilbert / Walter John Gilbert age 4½ / 1942". On the back of the other she wrote: "Great Great Great / grandfather of Rose on / mother's side / Great grandmother / Norris's father / Ebenezer Norris". These two are inconsistent and are inconsistent with the genealogy given here.

Sarah was living in Byron, Kent County, Michigan, in 1880. She was blind but had a clay pipe that she often smoked.

It is interesting that the given name of "Judson" appears in this family and in the next generation in Elizabeth's family. Elizabeth's daughter, Mary McKenney, married Washington Judson. Further investigation might uncover a long-term relationship between these families.

Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, gives an Ebenezer Norris as being an adult member of the Hilltop Presbyterian Church of Mendham, Morris County, New Jersey, on August 7, 1808.
