386–387.  James Dill was born in Monaghan, Ulster Provence, Ireland, in 1720, and died in Dillsburg, York County, Pennsylvania, in 1796. Jean Armstrong was born about 1724. They were married in Monaghan Settlement, York County, Pennsylvania, in 1743. She took the name Jean Dill. He is the son of Matthew and Mary (Hamilton) Dill. They had 11 children:

i. Matthew Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on November 7, 1745, and died probably on the British prison ship, Jersey., in 1777. (Pennsylvania archives, 2nd series, volume 13, page 57.)
ii. Mary Dill [#193]: She was born in Monaghan Settlement on May 25, 1747, and died in County of Centre, Pennsylvania, before December 17, 1825.
iii. Margaret Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on March 24, 1748/49.
iv. Thomas Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on December 1, 1751, and died in Dills, Ross County, Ohio, in 1834.
v. James Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on March 5, 1753, and died in Monaghan Settlement on January 27, 1785.
vi. William Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on October 5, 1754.
vii. Rebecca Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on August 7, 1756, and died in Dill's Station, Ross County, Ohio, on August 6, 1826. Her married name was Rebecca Johnston. After her brother Robert's wife died, Rebecca moved to Dill's Station, to help him rear his family.
viii. Jean Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on May 31, 1759. Her married name was Jean Abbitt. Her name also appears as Jane.
ix. Armstrong Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on August 3, 1761, and died in Dillsburg on December 31, 1788. He left a daughter, Mary.
x. John Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on October 1, 1763, and died before February, 1816. His wife's name was Mary.
xi. Robert Dill was born in Monaghan Settlement on August 13, 1767, and died in Dills on November 6, 1837.

They resided in Dillsburg, York County, Pennsylvania.

Researcher Valda L. Galbreath claimed that Mary (Dill) Galbreath was the daughter of James's brother, Col. Matthew. This appears not to be the case.
