328–329.  Jonathan Atwater was born in New Haven, Connecticut Colony, on Tuesday, November 4, 1690, and died in Connecticut on December 27, 1760. Abigail Bradley was baptized in Colony, Connecticut, on Sunday, April 22, 1694, and died in New Haven on March 19, 1732/3. They were married in New Haven on Tuesday, December 15, 1713. She took the name Abigail Atwater. He is the son of Jonathan and Ruth (Peck) Atwater. She is the daughter of Nathanial and Ruth (Dickerman) Bradley. They had eight children:

i. Phebe Atwater was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on October 20, 1714. She married Caleb Hotchkiss.
ii. Abraham Atwater was born in New Haven on November 10, 1716.
iii. Isaac Atwater was born in New Haven on October 21, 1718.
iv. Jacob Atwater [#164]: He was born in New Haven on January 22, 1721, and died in New Haven on December 11, 1799.
v. Jonathan Atwater was born in New Haven on October 12, 1723.
vi. Jonah Atwater was born in New Haven on October 2, 1726.
vii. Joel Atwater was born in New Haven on December 12, 1728.
viii. Abigail Atwater was born in New Haven on May 4, 1731. She married Stephen Ball.

His second marriage was to Martha Tuttle in New Haven on Wednesday, December 5, 1733. She took the name Martha Atwater. She was born in New Haven on Monday, April 26, 1697, and died on September 9, 1776. She was the widow of Benjamin Bradley. They had three children:

i. Jeremiah Atwater was born in New Haven on December 5, 1734.
ii. Lydia Atwater was born in New Haven on October 30, 1736, and died in New Haven on September 4, 1756.
iii. Amos Atwater was born in New Haven on October 3, 1738, and died in New Haven on May 27, 1739.

Jonathan's house was near the intersection of Crown and College Streets in New Haven. It was razed in 1893 and a large apartment house built on the site.

His will was probated in 1760. His wife and son, Joel, were named as executors; Isaac Doolittle, John Mix, and Samuel Mix were named as dividers. It named his wife, Martha, and nine children: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Jonathan, Jonah, Jeremiah, Phebe (wife of Caleb Hotchkiss), and Abigail (wife of Stephen Ball).
