2AA.  Katherine Ann Gilbert was born in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, April 30, 1961. Charles Leon Morris was born in Middleton, Connecticut, on Monday, April 14, 1958. They were married in the City Hall of San Francisco, California, on Friday, March 27, 1992. She did not change her name. She is the daughter of Walter John and Sandra Jean (Borden) Gilbert. He is the son of Walter and Mona Mae (Rosedale) Morris. They had three children:

Although Kitty was born in Washington, D.C., her family was living in the Washington suburb of Takoma Park, Maryland. Kitty grew up in Rockville, Maryland. Her solution to not liking high school was to finish in two years instead of three. Being a year early for college, she attended the University of Maryland in College Park for a year then moved to Boston and attended Boston University. During her junior year an opportunity arose for her to be an au pair for a family in Belgium. This was an adventure and an opportunity to learn French first hand after years of high school French had not been very effective; within a month she was in Belgium.
