194–195.  John Aikman was born in New Jersey in 1755, and died in Preble County, Ohio, on January 11, 1830. He was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Harrison Township, Preble County. Mary Dysert was born in Pennsylvania and died in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, in 1809. They were married in _____ on Monday, December 9, 1776. She took the name Mary Aikman. He is the son of William and Mary (Dunbar) Aikman. The order of the following eight children is uncertain.

i. John Aikman: He probably married Polly Hapner on February 14, 1811 (see below). He may also have married Sally Stacy on June 10, 1819.
ii. Alexander Aikman: He probably married Mary Werts on June 4, 1818 (see below).
iii. Benjamin D. Aikman: He probably married Rebekah Piles on October 3, 1822 (see below).
iv. James D. Aikman
v. Samuel Aikman
vi. Hannah Aikman: She probably married Abraham Werner on November 11, 1817 (see below).
vii. Elinander Aikman
viii. Elizabeth Aikman [#97]: She was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on October 24, 1788, and died in Pierceton, Kosciusko County, Indiana, on January 6, 1869.

The Aikmans came to Ohio from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in 1808, and had to spend the first winter in the fort at Greenville, Darke County. The next spring they bought a farm in Preble County, Ohio, where John remained until his death.

The Bureau of Land Management land patent searches have no entries for anyone named Aikman; therefore, no Aikman made an original land purchase from the government in Ohio.
