The Mirror

The Mirror

The mirror is the primary tool for checking and altering one's appearance. Americans spend time in front of the mirror in direct proportion to their concern with their appearance. This is by no means a strictly American custom or artifact, however. Reflecting devices have been used this way since the beginnings of recorded history. This mirror produces a reflected image by using a piece of glass to support a silvery paint, with a protective coating on the back.

This particular mirror is attached to a door on the medicine cabinet, which shows the designer's desire to save space. In a small house like this one, space is precious, but the mirror doesn't take up a significant amount. A mirror this small is relatively inexpensive. The mirror and sink usually serve as the focal point of daily grooming exercises.
