During the Depression, depression glass, held a lot of different meanings.

First of all, it was a way to make entertaining a little better. During the time period, people were almost forced to do all of their entertaining in their own homes, because economic conditions would not allow it to be any other way. These glass sets, though, were a way to make entertaining better. They could even brighten up simple family dinners like the one on the left. Perhaps the sets even made individuals want to entertain more simply because they had the materials to do it well.

A second meaning was in relation to class. Until now, glass was only affordable to the upper class individuals. Now, though, almost anyone could purchase a glass set, even though they were not as high of quiality as their more expensive counterparts. This almost represents a triumph for the middle class people. Finally, the upper class didn't have more than they did. The middle class was able to have these "luxuries" now.

Third, to the upper class individulas, depreesion glass, meant something totally different. Now they were not the sole owners of glass. Their glass was not as special anymore becaseu now everyone had a chance to by it. People like to have individuality and when something takes that away, than they get mad. It is the same with things like music. A lot of people tend to stop liking something, when everyone else likes it as well.

Finally, to the glass manufactures who were thriving during the great depression, depression glass meant opportunity and money. They were making a lot of money and they were glad that it was so popular.
