Playing Cards and Gambling

Gambling was associated with cards in Greenbelt, but was rarely serious. It was considered to be mostly for recreation and leisure and simply added some "spice" to games. Children to adults gambled over cards in some sort of form. However, in Greenbelt, the families were poor; they had little money to gamble with. When gambling did appear in games, change (nickels, dimes, and pennies) was used. Kid gambled with pennies and marbles. (Shields)
