Nationalities, Sexualities and Global TV
Course & Project

Now centered on the two tv shows, Highlander and Xena, this project is part of Katie King's Feminism and Writing Technologies investigation into the "Tele-Information Revolution." Highlander and Xena are both complicated lenses onto global and national tv and tv technologies, new arrangements of multinational capital and new European identities, interpenetrated forms of vision and writing on the World Wide Web and the internet and in film, tv, video and print media, structured in layers of what David Morley and Kevin Robins in their book Spaces of Identity call "global media, electronic landscapes and cultural boundaries." Feminist and media scholars have investments in both the politics of global tv production and also in women's involvements in media fandoms and in the domestication of tv and video, computer and satellite technologies. Katie King is also interested in the circulation of eroticized images with queer valences.
