Effects
of Training Methods on User Performances

Welcome to the online version of the training to be provided by us in
relation to the experiment entitled Effects of training methods on user
performance. The training here refers to the steps involved in executing
the tasks mouse-click by mouse-click. The blue play buttons provide links
to the numerous graphical demos that we have set up as a part of this manual.
We have attempted to include a wide range of tasks that would provide a
more accurate bias for evaluating the training method.

To find a file and create it’s shortcut on desktop (filename provided)

Adjusting Paper Settings for a particular printer

Checking Hard-disk space
-
Deleting and Restoring A Word Document

Creating and naming a new Folder
-
Adding and Removing programs from the Startup Menu

Changing the Background Settings

To
find a file and to create a shortcut on the desktop
Your window should look like this in the beginning
-
Click on Start
-
Select Programs
-
Select Windows Explorer

-
Click on Tools found on the taskbar in the Exploring C window
-
Select Find
-
Select Files or Folders

-
Type Wpwin.exe in the Name field in the All Files window
-
Click on Find Now

The screen should appear like this
-
Right-mouse click on Wpwin.exe found in the new window that appears
-
Click on Create Shortcut from the drop-down list that appears

-
Drag the shortcut icon to the desired place on the desktop
-
Click Yes if a message box appears to verify your action.

-
Exit all windows by clicking on the X on the top right-hand corner
of each window.

Adjusting Paper Settings for a Particular Printer
-
Double-click on My Computer

-
Double-click on Printers
-
Right-click on the printer you want to change settings to
-
Click on Properties

-
Click on the tab that says Paper

-
Modify paper size, source, and orientation to desired properties
-
Click OK

-
Click on the X of each window to close them

Checking Hard-disk space
-
Double-click on My Computer

-
Right-click on C drive
-
Select Properties

-
The window will show the status of the hard disk, disk space used, and
the amount of free space.

-
Click on OK
-
Exit My Computer
4.
Deleting and Restoring a Word Document
-
Click on My Computer
-
Select and open C: drive

-
Double-click on MS Word

-
Double-click on Winword

-
Highlight the appropriate .doc file by doing a single-left click

-
Click on it and drag to the Recycle Bin

The next four steps are required if you want to delete the file permanently
. For the present, please ignore them.
-
Double-click on the Recycle Bin
-
Select the appropriate file
-
Click on File on the taskbar
-
Click on Delete
Start HERE again
-
To Restore the file, right-click on Recycle Bin
-
Click on Open
-
Select on the appropriate file
-
Click File
-
Click Restore

-
Exit Recycle Bin
5.
Creating and Naming a New Folder
-
Double-click on My Computer
-
Double-click on C

-
Click on File on the taskbar
-
Click on New
-
Click on Folder

-
Type in a suitable name on the New Folder that appears.

-
Exit the C: drive and My Computer
6.
Adding and Removing Programs from the Startup Menu
-
Click on Start
-
Click on Settings
-
Click on Taskbar

-
Click on the tab that says Menu
-
Click on Advanced

-
Click and drag the application of your choice to the Startup folder

The screen looks different the next time you click on Start.
-
To remove an application from the Startup, double-click on Startup
-
Select the appropriate application
-
Drag application outside the folder and into the appropriate one.

-
Close all windows
You will find that the screen has reverted back to it’s original stature
when you press Start.
7.
Changing the Background Settings
-
Right-click on the empty portion of the screen
-
Click on Properties

-
Click on the tab that says Background in the window that pops up
-
Choose the appropriate pattern by selecting from the listbox
-
Choose the appropriate wallpaper from the listbox under the Wallpaper
heading
-
Click on Apply

-
Click OK

This becomes the revised background for your computer.
