Navigation of mass amounts of information on the World Wide Web is challenging to the user community. Web browsers have incorporated various types of history mechanisms to assist users in returning to previous accessed information. These mechanisms have been developed to track visitation information and provide recall functionality. The common mechanism is the "Back" button, which is available in many popular browsers. Newer versions of browsers provide history features of varying degrees from textual based information to graphical images. This paper describes an experiment on history styles to access the performance of users and their satisfaction as it relates to web browsing. The results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the three treatments of history styles or in user satisfaction.
