The work for this experiment was mostly an exercise in divide and conquer after the initial design phase. Hilary sorted through and selected photos for the experiment tasks from the HCIL digital photo library, organized them into collections, and developed the search tasks for each collection. She also compiled most of the related literature and summarized it in the introduction to the paper. Jeff wrote most of the Java program and devised the logic that allowed subjects to be counterbalanced into different treatment groups automatically. He also performed most of the statistical analysis for interpreting the results of the experiment. Both authors recruited and ran subjects.
