Abstract

This experiment was done to determine the impact of simple and complex passwords and online registration forms in regards to error rate and registration time. Users completed one of two registration forms: a simple, one page form with minimal help text, or a complex, multi-page form with abundant help text. After completing one of the registration forms, a user would receive either a simple or a complex password and would then attempt to login.

Users did manage to complete the simple form more quickly and logged in faster with the simple password. However, the differences were not statistically significant, and there was virtually no variance between the error rates for the separate treatments.
