TODAY'S SHOES

Women's shoes in the late 19th and early 20th century continued to have high heels. High heels became more popular when shirts began to get slightly shorter or held up to show the feet. Looking at the images on the right, they seem more like platforms. These types of shoes are very popular now and have been in the past. Looking at fashion now, we can help see the difference in how some shoe styles have changed and some remain the same. Most of the shoes today look very similar to the shoes in the late 1930s.

Today women buy shoes from shoes stores like Nine West, Bakers Shoes, Easy Spirit, or Hahn Shoes. Woman can also go to many department stores like JC Penny, Hecht's, Macys, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and many more. Women's shoes come many shapes and sizes. Although, women's feet have changed in size, not all the shoes stores have changed their shoes to meet those changes. For example, Shoe stores like Payless Shoes Source now carry wide width shoes for women who can not find that feature in other stores.

Unlike many women living in the 1930s and 1940s, women now have access to many malls and other places to buy shoes. Since women have become more independent, they own their own cars which makes it more easy for women to shop for shoes of their choice. In addition with the building of the Metro in Washington D.C., women who do not have cars can travel using the metro to many of the local malls.
